Tuesday Press Conference: Players Speak

by

Finally, here are some excerpts from some MSU players at today’s press conference:

• WR Brandon McRae, on the receiving corps: “I believe we’re the best in the SEC, to tell you the truth. We just don’t have as much opportunity as other teams, with our situation and stuff. But I think we’re probably like the top in the SEC.”

• McRae, when asked to elaborate about opportunities, lack thereof: “I wouldn’t say not as many plays, but I don’t know how to explain it. I don’t know, I just think we’re the best. I just know that, compared to everybody else.”

Now, I should say that McRae might be the most positive, likable guy I’ve ever met. It sounds like he’s being cocky, but if you’re there talking to him, you can tell he’s anything but. Nevertheless, he said it. Moving on.

• OL Michael Gates: “It’s been tough not being out there with my fellow teammates. I think we’ve struggled, but at times, especially as the season’s progressed, I think we’ve bounced back pretty good. It feels good to be back in the lineup this week.”

• Gates, on finishing strong: “It hurts not being able to go to a bowl game like we did last year, but at the same time, it’s all about finishing. That’s one thing coach has always harped on and drove home to us. We have to finish. If we don’t finish, we really can’t feel good about ourselves.”

• WR Jamayel Smith: “We still haven’t played the best football we can play. That’s what Coach Croom wants us to do, he wants us to play, go out there as a team and play the best we can play. … I feel like if we do that, we can beat anybody in the conference.”

• Smith, on his recent play: “I’m starting to get a little comfortable. I’m starting to get my confidence back.”

Mr. McRae, I don’t care if you’re a nice kid or just cocky, either way, prove to me, a dedicated MSU fan for over 30 years, that the MSU receiving corps ARE “the best in the SEC” and “the top in the SEC” for the rest of the season…..PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me something offensively to cheer for, just once!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i heard mcrae is a fun guy…not really cocky as much as positive like you said….when i first read that quote, i thought he was calling out either the coaching or the QB…but i still think his comments are interesting cause they sound like they were meant towards something but he caught himself…

so BL, i heard another rumor…i hear ol’ mr. garrett might be opening his recruiting back up because either lsu reneged on the scholly, he didnt want to grayshirt, or just changed his mind cause he wont see the field there…BUT i heard he was at the MSU/KY game and might want to be a bulldog again….some state fans on sixpack say they dont want him back cause he played us, but we are in NO position to turn down a good QB with potential even with russell supposedly being solid no matter what…i say the more the merrier!!!….but like i said..rumor..it could be complete bs, but it sounded legit enough…

leeearl, i will say mcrae does good things when he gets the ball…he nor the rest are the best in the sec but i do think if we had a QB, mcrae could be one the best we have had in a good decade!!…

and im not knocking tyson or wesley, but they are crippled due to the playcalling and offense…

  4. imabulldog Says:

BL, find out if that is true, PLEASE???

  5. Brad Locke Says:

About Garrett? At last report, he’s planning to get to Baton Rouge by January. I seriously wouldn’t put too much stock in that rumor, but I figure our Tupelo beat writer will be talking to him soon.

  6. carwwest Says:

ok thanks BL, just letting you know what i heard…

  7. Brad Locke Says:

I mentioned it to the guys in the office this morning, so they’ve got their ears perked up for anything. As do I.

  8. leeearl Says:

yeah, carwwest, McRae definitely has been the one bright spot in our receiving corp….

  9. bleedmaroon Says:

yeah garrett was at the uk game. he sat in front of us. i dont think he was too interested in the game. he came in about halftime and left at the start of the 4th.

  10. carwwest Says:

gotcha BL….thanks for the update bleedmaroon….
