On the Links: Rewind & Stat Time

by

As promised, here is a look back at Mississippi State’s football win over Arkansas. And if you’re interested, here’s a look back at Ole Miss’ triumph in the bayou. Speaking of the Rebels – 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oxford – here is the blog of fellow Daily Journal writer Parrish Alford.

Now seems as good a time as any to look at some stats for State and Ole Miss. So here is where the Bulldogs and No. 25 Rebels rank nationally in several categories:

Rushing offense: MSU 95, Ole Miss 32

Passing offense: MSU 91, Ole Miss 59

Total offense: MSU 105, Ole Miss 39

Scoring offense: MSU 113, Ole Miss 39

Rushing defense: MSU 65, Ole Miss 9

Pass efficiency defense: MSU 24, Ole Miss 59

Total defense: MSU 27, Ole Miss 30

Turnover margin: MSU 80, Ole Miss T-66

What do all those numbers mean? Not much, of course, because this is the Egg Bowl we’re talking about.

Upcoming today: the SEC will release its players of the week – could see a Bulldog on there, who knows – and there will be teleconferences for both MSU football coach Sylvester Croom and basketball coach Rick Stansbury. And I’ll report from Starkville later on.
