Derek Dooley Quells Rumors

Louisiana Tech coach Derek Dooley has issued a statement saying he’s not been contacted by other schools and has no intention of leaving Ruston. His quote:

“There has been speculation that I am entertaining other head coaching jobs. I have not been interviewed or contacted by anyone at another university, and I have no intentions of leaving Louisiana Tech. My family and I are very happy in Ruston, and we look forward to continuing to build on the success that our program has achieved in a short time.”

I hate that. I thought Dooley would be great here. It is starting to look alittle grim for State. Tuberville is a winner but I just don’t know. I think Auburn will hold on to him if Leech turns them down.

Thats good news. I think we can do better. If we can get our hands on a proven major conf coach, ie Tubby, Fulmer, maybe even Bowden. Let the name bring in the palyers.

  3. bleedmaroon Says:

Tubby is out at Auburn. Make an offer NOW GB!!

Nothing in Dooley’s statement indicates that he would not be open to the Mississippi State job. That kind of statement is typical nowadays by coaches….not lobbying for him, but he would also appear to fit the criteria as outlined by Byrne. I believe that he will get a good strong look, and we would be foolish not to do so.

    I hope your right boonhoggenbeck.

Dooley is using “COACHSPEAK”. His Dad taught him how to do that.
He hasn’t said NO has he?

  7. joekstewart Says:

He is alot better than Tuberville. Croom was supposedly let go because he is stiff-necked. And do we want to hire another one in Tuby. THere were reports all yeart about how their coaching staff can’t get along. He goes through more OC than anybody. NOt Tuby

  8. spaceghost1 Says:

We can do better than Dooley.

  9. spaceghost1 Says:

How long will it take for GB to announce Tubs as our new coach?

  10. boonhoggenbeck Says:

Dooley also learned Coachspeak from Saban…possibly. I believe that Greg Byrne thinks “outside the box”…and that ain’t TT. I know he has won, but he is on the verge of being “yesterday.” GB is not a “yesterday man.”

  11. dc31 Says:

What has Dooley done to prove himself besides having football bloodlines and getting one measley win that we giftwrapped for him?

    Thumbs Down to Dooley

Yes to Tuberville, Yes to Bowden, Yes to Fulmer…We need someone that is proven and that can recruit.

It’s not about the X’s and O’s, it’s about the Jimmies and the Joes

I really don’t think Mississippi State is in a position at this point in time to hire a coach “who has proven himself”. Bryne is going to have to take a chance on someone. If a petersen, Patterson, etc. comes to State and fails (as more do than don’t) then it could be a career killer.
I think its time to hire a Dooley type or recycle a Tuberville or a Fulmer. I personally think both of those guys can still do the job. Don’t base what can happen at State on one back year at Auburn or U.T.
