This and That

by

Forgive my prolonged absence, but I spent the weekend getting Christmas stuff sorted out. And I’m still not done (ugh).

As you might have seen in today’s Journal, Super Bulldog Weekend has been moved to April 17-18. That means spring football practice begins the week of March 23 (right after spring break). Also, a reminder that the Bulldog basketball team plays in Jackson tomorrow night versus Nicholls State. The team leaves this afternoon, and there will be an autograph session from 6:30-7:15 tonight at Mississippi Coliseum.

Speaking of hoops, the Lady Bulldogs continue to roll. They beat Utah yesterday to move to 10-0 on the season.

And here’s something you might find interesting: We released our All-Area football team today. Coach of the Year was Baldwyn’s Jimmy Dillinger; Defensive Player of the Year went to Shannon LB Luzon Rivers; and Offensive Player of the Year was awarded to Tupelo WR/KR/Etc. Chad Bumphis. MSU is hoping, of course, to bring Bumphis to Starkville. Also, here is the entire All-Area first team.

Coach D certainly deserves to be Coach of the Year. My kids go to Baldwyn and I have had two sons to play middle school ball with him as their coach. He is a very nice man and always has a smile and something positive to say. He is a credit to Baldwyn and Baldwyn needs all the credits they can get! Jeff Palmer and Gregg Tucker are also outstanding leaders, on the team and in the school.

Baldwyn’s win was wonderful. I did not go to school there, but have come to love the community and the school (for the most part) and it was exciting. The kids worked really hard and they deserved the reward.

BTW, how many other hs football teams have won the state championship that had a GIRL on the team? The girl on our team doesn’t play often but she gives it her all and her support is completely with the team. She is also a great student.

    Enjoying the blog!!
