    A Happy New Year!

  2. darkcooger Says:

Happy New Year to you too, JB!

Good article, Brad. It’s been an eventful year for Mississippi State athletics, no doubt. Makes me excited about the future. Still a little worried about basketball this year, but they’re young and talented. Once Rick reigns them in, I think they’ll be wicked. Maybe not the West again this year, but next year, watch out!

Drama is the word. Hope b’ball team comes along, that was pitiful last nite. No focus at all. 4 point lead with a minute to play, and give up two steals. Last years’ Mr. Basketball getting few minutes a game. Cannot control the pace of the game. Floor coaching pitiful.

I agree, Stans was out-coached last night. Makes you wonder if young Mr. Byrne feels the same way. Stans has done a great job in his tenure, but I think he may have topped out. He’s always been known as a great recruiter, but not much of a game strategist. Oh how that is proving true this year.

But, they did this Gordon’s freshman year and then had success during his Soph and Junior years. Let’s hope that this group is just going through growing pains. Hat’s off to San Diego, though. They really played great team ball. It’s nice to see a basketball team actually run an offense.

  5. thespear Says:

Stans hasn’t topped out, our team is EXTREMELY young! Stans is a heck of a coach and we better hang on to him!

  6. Sohail Ahmed Says:

wow… I was looking for the same from past one hour… thanks for the post, it’s really great.

  7. goldendawg Says:

Terry Bowden to take Hudspeth’s place at UNA…

  8. imabulldog Says:

I’d say that you nailed it BL, and yes ‘drama’ would be the word to describe it all.

My top story this year has gotta be Dan the Freakin Man’

  9. coachsmith Says:

Coach only trails florida and the wildcats in victories in the last 10 years. Who will we get at msu that will do better. In football we would take the stans success in a heart beat. Coach is doing a great job we are lucky to have him.Remember now all these new coaches haven’t coached a game yet. The team is young remember that Go Dogs!!!

  10. cnd46 Says:

Happy New Year everyone. I think Stans is a great recruiter, however an average gameday coach. I think two years is what we need to give him, if he can’t get past the second round after the two years, then we need new blood.

I’ve said before that I think Stansbury isn’t the best coach, but I wouldn’t go so far as to ask for his replacement. He’s not the best, but he’s good. And with his recruiting skills, that may be enough. I mean, with the kind of talent he brings to MSU, just how good does the coaching really need to be?

Granted, I believe we would have at least one national title by now under a better coach with the same recruits, but there’s no guarantee that the better coach would have attracted the same talent. I can live with waiting until Stansbury is able to bring home the big trophy.

  13. nova3930 Says:

I have to agree that Stansbury is a pretty good coach and a great recruiter, but honestly am I just looking at things cockeyed or does he suck at player retention. I’ve lost track of the number of high profile recruits that have transfered out after a year or two. There’s something not quite right when that happens ever single year.

  14. imabulldog Says:

I’m throwing up all over my living room right now- anyone else know why?

  15. darkcooger Says:

ima: Quarterback sneak on 4th and 4 have anything to do with it?

  16. imabulldog Says:

    That and other idiotic coaching!

  17. darkcooger Says:

Did you hear when they commented that Mike Leach said his team just had to “execute”? When I heard that, I had to wonder if that meant he was a terrible coach. I mean, experience says… 🙂

  18. imabulldog Says:

Yeah that’s true, now Ole Miss is just outplaying them. That play before the half where Harell didn’t score- killed TT.

Anybody who thought OM wasn’t gonna show- was way wrong

  19. darkcooger Says:

Yeah, have to be fair, Ole Miss *is* good. On the plus side, this will put the SEC at 4-1 in bowl season, and I predict at least two more wins (Alabama and Florida), so not a bad showing for the conference.

How about this: if someone had told you at the beginning of the season that Vanderbilt would be in a bowl game and that they’d win it, would you have believed them?

  20. imabulldog Says:

All I got to say is that I hope Dan brings that kind of excitement to us.

And no, I wouldn’t believe em’

  21. imabulldog Says:

Let’s be honest, Leach isn’t that good of a coach…

Critical 4th & 4 and he pulls a qb sneak?

On the goal line vs a blitzing OM D, and he doesn’t put harell in the shotgun.

And last but not least, Zero adjustments on O and on D.

    Oh well, SEC power baby!
