So begins the first full week of the new year, and it promises to be a busy one.
• New MSU football coach Dan Mullen is hunkered down with the Florida Gators as they prepare for the BCS title game (Thursday vs. Oklahoma). As for what happens after that game, UF coach Urban Meyer expects a seamless transition when Steve Addazio takes over Mullen’s role.
• To the basketball court, MSU’s men wrap up non-conference play tonight against Western Kentucky (9-4), which reached the Sweet 16 last season. Tipoff at the Hump is 7 p.m. It will be televised by CSS and has been picked up by ESPN360. The Bulldogs (9-5) will then be off until Saturday, when they travel to Arkansas for their SEC opener (6 p.m., FSN). Here’s a story on WKU’s last game, a win over UALR, accompanied by a picture of former ICC standout Sergio Kerusch.
• As for the Lady Bulldogs, they are done with non-conference play and open up SEC action at 4 p.m. Thursday at No. 18 Florida (14-1). That game was moved up a couple of hours because of the aforementioned BCS title game. MSU is 12-2 and coming off a loss to Xavier. I’ll having something on the Lady Bulldogs later this week; and don’t forget, they play Ole Miss on Sunday in Starkville.

Do you think that Coach Mullen has potential staff members coming with him from Florida, which is why there hasn’t been any confirmation about coordinators? Are there any other candidates from schools that just completed bowl games rumored?
