Alabama at MSU: Official Game Thread

by

Almost time to tip off Mississippi State’s SEC home opener against Alabama. First place in the Western Division on the line. Yeah, it’s a bit early to put much stock in that, but definitely worth noting. Also worth noting is that Bama hasn’t won here since 2005. Also worth noting is that the Crimson Tide will be without the services of point guard Ronald Steele, who’s out with a heel injury. He was listed as doubtful coming in. Starting in his place will be senior Brandon Hollinger.

MSU is 11-5 overall, 1-0 in SEC play. Alabama is 11-4, 1-0.

Sounds intense so far! Go Dawgs!

  2. imabulldog Says:

Sounds like are not playing D or rebounding, but then again it may just not be bouncing our way

  3. darkcooger Says:

Well, offensive rebounding has been a major weakness for us all season.

  4. farley662 Says:

    Whats the score?

  5. imabulldog Says:

    30-25 bama

  6. imabulldog Says:

Osby is playing his butt of, under a minute down 1

  7. imabulldog Says:

Down 3 @ half, we are not playing any D apparently. Bama has driven the lane and laid it up all night. Swat better get in there

  8. darkcooger Says:

    At least it’s only 3 points. That’s anybody’s game.

  9. Brad Locke Says:

Halftime: Alabama 36, MSU 33. My impressions:
    • MSU’s having trouble with Bama’s guards on the dribble drive. Mikhail Torrance giving them lots of trouble.
    • MSU’s board work has been bad, then good, then not so good.
    • You’re right, ima, Osby playing his tail off.
    • Threes just aren’t falling, nor are Varnado’s shots. He’s getting challenged pretty good down there.

  10. Brad Locke Says:

    Halftime stats for MSU:
Ravern Johnson 7 points on 3-of-7 shooting
Barry Stewart 7 points on 2-of-4 shooting
MSU shooting 13-of-34 from floor (38.2%)
    Rebounds: Alabama 21, MSU 18.

    Second half fixin’ to start.

  11. Brad Locke Says:

Bulldogs committed their first turnover of the half at about the 11:10 mark. Looking good, up 62-55 with 11:06 to go in the second half. Riley Benock’s 3-ball gave State its largest lead of the game, at 60-50.

  12. benzadawgfan Says:

Sounds good so far…… Please don’t start turning the ball over & taking poor shots!

  13. imabulldog Says:

    Hello-Phil Turner!!!

  14. benzadawgfan Says:

    Good minutes from the bench.

  15. Brad Locke Says:

With 3:46 left, MSU is up 72-61.

  16. rwriffe Says:

this watching live stats is nerve racking

  17. Brad Locke Says:

MSU 72, Bama 66 with 2:14 left. Bulldogs haven’t scored since 6:52 mark.

  18. darkcooger Says:

Yeah, I hate the live stats page. Go Dawgs! Hold on!

  19. rwriffe Says:

one thing for sure, the scoring was spread around tonight

  20. darkcooger Says:

Looks like State played a hell of a second half. 65% from the field and 72% from behind the arc. Pretty wicked. Just looking at the stats, it looks like the offensive rebounding picked up a little bit.

    Go Dawgs!

  21. imabulldog Says:

good win…but I swear, Stanz has no clue how to hold a lead vs SEC opponents- never has! Good win

  22. Brad Locke Says:

It’s over: MSU 83, Bama 74. Bulldogs in sole possession of first place in the West. Phil Turner led State with 17 points, Dee Bost and Barry Stewart had 13 each, and Jarvis Varnado added 11.

  23. benzadawgfan Says:

Yeah baby! Always great to get a Bulldog win and a bama loss in the same day!!!! Great start for the sec schedule! GO DAWGS!

  24. thingreenline Says:

Looks like the basketball team is almost as hot as the new volleyball coach

  25. dawgface52 Says:

    Good win! 🙂

  26. dadwithpride Says:

looks like the Rebs beat Ark./ maybe they were overrated, Good win for MSU

  27. imabulldog Says:

Im not clowning because they are Ole Miss, but without Warren UM is pretty bad, so for Arky to fall to them…the West is looking good for us

  28. judwe Says:

Bost with 10 dimes to three t’overs

    only 6-10 from charity though.

He’s gonna be the best pg to lace’em up at State by the time he gets his uni shadowboxed.

  29. imabulldog Says:

67% from field, 78% from 3 pt in 2nd half

  30. maxdawg Says:

I liked the way they jumped on them after halftime. Way to Dawgs!!!!

  31. coachsmith Says:

Congrats to the Dawgs!!!! Stan is the man!!!

  32. bigdraws Says:

Gotta link for the volleyball coach TGL? Just got back from the game. Phil Turner played better than I’ve ever seen him.

She’s kinda got elf ears, but who cares?
She is also married to Brian Hazelwood. Bet I could put something through her “uprights.”

  34. bigdraws Says:

Very hittable. She could use a few inches off that neck too though.

  35. imabulldog Says:

For some reason I see Hazelwood, teeing your heads up, and its gooooood, and we go to the SEC championship again 🙂

  36. Brad Locke Says:

Easy on the innuendos, fellas. This ain’t the Six Pack.

  37. imabulldog Says:
