Frank Wilson Bolts?

UPDATE: An MSU spokesman has told me that Wilson turned in a letter of resignation to AD Greg Byrne.

According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, new MSU assistant coach Frank Wilson is expected to join Lane Kiffin‘s staff at Tennessee. Wilson was hired by new State coach Dan Mullen last month and has been serving as recruiting coordinator and was also expected to coach running backs.

An MSU spokesman could not confirm the story. I left a message for Wilson just a moment ago. Stay tuned.

What is the deal with these coaches? Why do assistants not have buyout clauses? Aren’t we paying the guys from Croom’s staff? Should work both ways. If this guy did leave, he’s a POS and don’t want him anyway. We want people who want to be at State. Wilson is sounding like the Bobby Petrino of assistant coaches.

What does this mean for Montrell Conner? Is UT trying to steal away our recruits now?

  3. dawgface52 Says:

This does suck. If assistants can leave as they please, we should be able to fire them with out any payoff as we please.

He is the one that had Choo Choo ready to commit. Bastard.

  5. maroon1white Says:

Conner was a commit well before Wilson or Mullen came on board. I wouldn’t see how Wilson would matter to him.

As far as Wilson goes if all he’s doing is jumping to the next best thing, he’ll see the downside of it soon enough.

  6. msudawginbama Says:

better he leave no than in the middle of the season…

  7. imabulldog Says:

Thats ok, because UT’s gonna get the same talent they’ve always got, and guess what, after 3 “OK” seasons with a terrible coach like Kiffin- maybe one bowl win, and a average fball team- UT and their ADM will realize that Fulmer wasnt the problem, and their will be a huge sigh of “OH CRAP! What did we do!”

And when we are better off than “Jerk” Kiffin and “O” for 8 Caveman, Wilson and maybe a recruit or two he steals will be quite envious of our progress, stuck in their world of mediocrity

  8. imabulldog Says:

    Be-leeeee Dat’

UT made the dumbest hire of everyone in the country, in maybe the past 20 yrs of CFball, except maybe Auby

Looks like ole Frank may have jumped right out of the frying pan into the fire!!

I know that Wilson is a good coach, but this says so much about him as a person going school-to-school like this.

Attaboy Frank. I am sure he’ll be kickin himself in the arse in two years when he’s on the way to pick up his unemployment check. Doesn’t he know that kiffin doesn’t even have to lose to get fired?

  12. dawgbone Says:

Well at least we know what kind of character he has. What goes around
comes around. Sometimes it just takes a while.

We need to go after Stan Drayon immediately. Kiffin hired Eddie Gran, Tubernut’s RB coach, and didn’t retain Drayton. Drayton was RB coach at MSU under Croom for his first year, then moved on to FLA for 3 years under Meyer (where he was on staff with MULLEN), and then Fulmer hired him. He’s a great RB coach, and ranked as one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation by

That’s what we call no brainer. He knows Mullen’s offense, great recruiter, needs a job.

i heard a rumor about this a week or so ago and i was hoping it wasnt true…this is a big blow…it is going to be very hard to fill his shoes….doesnt change the fact that im still pissed about it….

Here’s a quote from Kiffin, via Ian Rapaport’s blog (not sure of the original source): “”With the staff now complete, not only do we have the best recruiters in the SEC but some of the best in the country,” Kiffin said. “To be able to take South Carolina’s recruiting coordinator, Mississippi State’s recruiting coordinator, Alabama’s best recruiter and Auburn’s best recruiter over the past 10 years was a great accomplishment for us.”

How arrogant can a person be? I hope his players see his true colors.

  18. imabulldog Says:

I can’t stress it enough, its gonna be so funny when UT sucks this yr. And they’ll be sitting there looking around the locker room at eachother, all those “great” coaches and recruiters, will not know what to do with themselves

I’m confused… why all the negativity? Kiffin’s putting together an all-star coaching staff and offers Wilson a spot. I imagine (not positive) that it also brings a substantial increase in pay over his job at State. Sounds like he’s making a pretty smart professional decision! And as for all the cheap shots at UT, wish all you want, but Tennessee is headed back to the top. They have a lot of talent returning (great 2007 recruiting class) and are closing in on a top 10 class for 2009. Sorry for your loss, but show a little class!

  21. rwriffe Says:

I’m not going to slam the guy for taking the ut job. So what? He was with us for a month. Kiffin acts like he got something special from us. Kiffin is no proven coach and ut is in the same boat as MSU as headcoachs go. No head coaching experience at the college level and basically has to prove himself. One thing is for sure, if he thinks working for Al Davis was pressure then he has a rude awakening coming. The first losing season at ut will have the vol nation calling for his head. I can’t wait to see them stink this coming year. Especially since I live up here among them.

  22. rjl4tnvols Says:

Well apparently since all the msu fans are soooo upset, we must have got a good one. For an msu fan to say that ut is going to suck, is kind of like a pot calling the kettle black. I’m not saying we’re gonna win the sec next year, but with the staff we have in place it is only a matter of time before we’er back on top of the sec. Let’s look at our staff shall we. Lane had Oakland actually being competitive, they led what was it 4 games going into the 4th quarter. Monte enough said. Oregeron very hot commodity and great recruiter (evidence USC and Ole Miss), very good coach as well. We have a staff that is loaded with nfl experience and great recruiters,

They took Kiffin with the hope that he would bring in more people, including kiff. senior and Wilson.
