Lady Bulldogs Win; & Loads o’ Links

I kind of wish I’d stayed in Baton Rouge another night. Then I could’ve seen MSU’s women knock off LSU, 38-36, Thursday night. Armelie Lumanu‘s 15-footer at the horn lifted the Lady Bulldogs (15-4, 3-2 SEC) to their first win at LSU in 20 tries. Robin Porter led State with 10 points.

I’ve got some links I want to share with you, some of which I wanted to post last night, but Comcast had some sort of meltdown, and the Internet is still off at home. Anyway, from the Chattanooga Times Free Press, David Paschall writes about Dan Mullen‘s recruiting haul of in-state athletes, calling it “the SEC’s most surprising class of commitments.” This 2009 class is ranked 17th in the nation by, and it could go higher, according to the Web site’s national editor, Jamie Newberg. He told Paschall that he thinks Noxubee County WR Pat Patterson, the state’s No. 1-rated prospect, will wind up in Starkville.

Now to the Sporting News, where Matt Hayes lists the top five player-coach partnerships that must be developed during spring practices. At the top of the list is Florida QB Tim Tebow and his position coach, Scot Loeffler. “Don’t underestimate the loss of Dan Mullen to Mississippi State,” Hayes writes. “Mullen not only was Tebow’s position coach, he was his confidant and the mentor who – more than anyone – had Tebow prepared for every possible scenario on and off the field.”

Sticking with football, if you’re going to the Senior Bowl in Mobile to watch Derek Pegues or whoever, get down there today.

In our SEC news item of the day, Auburn’s new football coaching staff has basically booted its punter to the curb. Clinton Durst, who walked on and promptly became one of the best punters in the SEC and the nation, is not getting the scholarship promised him by the Tommy Tuberville regime.

And a quick men’s basketball note: MSU has an RPI of 86 even after that bad loss to LSU. The Bulldogs are about 100 spots ahead of where they were at the start of the month. They travel to Georgia on Saturday, and I’ll have a look at that game in tomorrow’s Journal.

I wish that guy was right on the Patterson deal, if he was- I’d laugh, laugh, and laugh some more.

  2. imabulldog Says:

Good article on Mullen, funy he kept saying Croom got “fired” 🙂

Which, who knows…but anyway, he has done everything he said he would do- by dominating the State in recruiting

Way to go Lady Dawgs! They just keep on impressing. I don’t know how good LSU’s women are this year, but any conference win is a good one, especially on the road!

Dan IS the Man! Check out this quote from Skinner.

    According to
Why did Deontae cancel his Auburn visit and put Ole Miss in its place?

“Because Ole Miss has been with me the longest. Me and Pat (Patterson) are gong to go over there for the weekend and check it out.”

Who ever Skinner visits; they will have to overcome the Dogs.

“I am still committed to MSU, and somebody is going to have to show me that they have more to offer than they do for me to change my mind. I am still solid with MSU.”

DAMN, thats strong right there! Go State!

I think we’ll be fine with our newly recruited kicking crew- but if we wouldn’t have picked up the guy we did, I’d offer him a scholly

  6. warbirdz44 Says:

38-36? That had to have been a dreadfully boing game to watch. Geez!

  7. bigdraws Says:

warbirdz, it’s womens basketball. It was gonna be a boring game anyways.

No ones mentioned it yet- I think…but, what a huge recruiting asset that Knox will be. I mean when you think of it-he had Auby ranked #5 in the country, til Tubbs left.

They’ve had some stout classes in the past…I don’t wanna ‘jinx’ us…but I think us State fans may have a lot to cheer about here in the future…and I mean a-lot, which would make up for our years of ”heart ache”

  9. mississippipitbull Says:

Yeah he ought bring a few of those Auburn recruits on over on this next visit weekend. I believe next weekend Bulldog nation will get a few surprises from a few new recruits come in. I’m just hoping. Did you guys here that Patterson, Bumphis, and Thames are going to be on t.v. signing their letters of intent?

  10. mississippipitbull Says:

BL I think you ought to put the new logos all around the blog page. We should showing off the new logo everywhere man. The new bulldog is the shiz. It’ll bite a hole Rebs ass any day. Show it off! Show it off!

  11. dadwithpride Says:

I think I saw a teaser on WTOK (Meridian) that Patterson woulb be carrying Patterson’s signing today on their 6:00 newscast.

  12. imabulldog Says:

That’d be great, OM’s jaw would probably hit the floor

  13. dadwithpride Says:

didnt say who he was committing to

  14. imabulldog Says:

Oh, well I don’t expect us to get him, it’d be nice and it would shock OM

  15. benzadawgfan Says:

He did say that he, Russell, and Bumphis were all gonna go together. Maybe the opporitunity to play with those guys that he knows, are very talented, and in the same graduating class, will work in our favor. Sneed will be gone before he is, and Archie is out of kids. Who’s gonna throw him the ball then?

  16. mississippipitbull Says:

Lol!!! Right, Patterson don’t turn your back on us!! I think of he doesn’t commit to OM by the end of today or this weekend we have a shot at signing him. This week I think Skinner will give us his verbal for real and we’ll get a few surprises. What do ya’ll think?
