Signing Time – National Signing Day post

by

rgeimrbcrioumjn200812112329201UPDATE:Chad Bumphis has signed with Mississippi State at 7:30 a.m. at Tupelo High School. Read comments from Chad below and more updates on Bulldog class below in the comments section.

Hi everybody. As Brad typed out today is THE day. All the experts are pointing to a great class for the Bulldogs and Coach Dan Mullen it will be fun to see it come together. The spirit award of the day goes to phantomdog. Thanks for the early post. It you love college football or recruiting (and who doesn’t in the South right?) today is your day. As a new father I’m glad to see my 11 month old son was up bright and early for today. Of course he does that most days. Seriously, I’m glad to pinch hit for awhile as Brad Locke returns from the Dogs big win up in Kentucky.

Speaking of that –  lets get the party started with a tip of the hat the basketball Bulldogs. What a win in Lexington last night. Here are the links –

First victory in Lexington since 1995

Notebook from game.

Brad fills up your need for football news with this story looking at what to expect …

Mullen ready to make a splash with first class.

We’ll post updates in the comments section and we’ll have list and more. Looking forward to hearing from you on your thoughts about this class and what is ahead for Miss. State football. I’ve always enjoyed reading what this community talks about from giving Brad and Gregg Ellis hard times about their very large heads to other topics.

If you are in the Tupelo area remember the Mississippi State signing day party at Romie’s from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Romie’s is located at 804 W. Jackson St. in Tupelo and coach Rocky Felker and Coach Mark Hudspeth will be on hand along with heavy hors d’oevres and cash bar. Cost is $15 per person. Football talk, good food and good folks. Sounds like a winner if you are in the area.

Again check out the comments section and we’ll keep you up to date. It is going to be cold today so stay inside with computer on. Thanks for joining us!

  7. toddv Says:

Chad Bumphis has signed. It was a low key ceremony at Tupelo High School.

  8. toddv Says:

Signed with Mississippi State I should have said. Geez, I forgot the most important part.

  9. bigdraws Says:

    Good deal. Welcome aboard Chad!!!

  10. toddv Says:

Welcome iambulldog and bigdraws. … Gene Phelps said the ceremony today was typical of the kind of person Chad is. Low key and not all about him. He and his teammate Justin Bean (Kentucky) signed at 7:30 a.m. at Tupelo High School. Just family, coaches and a few friends.

“Coach Mullen recruited me for Florida so when he came to Mississippi State they were in the lead,” Bumphis said after signing. “I wanted to play close to home so my mom could come see me play.”

  11. toddv Says:

  12. maroon1white Says:

    Best Wednesday ever!

    Go State!

  13. bigdraws Says:

    Any word about Thames yet?

  14. maroon1white Says:

BL, not take away from the blog but ESPN’s recruiting home page has State on its scrolling stories with an article about the domination State has on the in-state talent.

    http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/recruiting/football/index

The gauntlet has been thrown down to the thunderous roar of cowbells!

    Go State!

  15. toddv Says:

Haven’t heard on Thames bigdraws if someone else does feel free to chime in. As soon as we hear we’ll post it here. Good link maroon1white, thanks for joining in. It is looking like a big day for the Bulldogs.

  16. bleedmaroon Says:

    MSU site has Thames signed.

  17. toddv Says:

Dennis Thames DB 5-11 185 Louisville, MS (Louisville)

  18. toddv Says:

Sorry bleedmaroon. You beat me to the punch. Thanks for bringing that to us.

  19. bigdraws Says:

    Thanks.

  20. toddv Says:

I’m interested what y’all think so far? What has been the reason for such a strong effort in state? Which player stands out to you?

  21. imabulldog Says:

Happy happy joy joy happy happy joy joy, and we still have some day left

  22. imabulldog Says:

Right now, glad to see Sanders, Cox, and Russell on that list, didn’t doubt em’, just glad to know they are headed to God’s Country

  23. bleedmaroon Says:

My thought is I can’t wait to see some very good in state talent utilized on the field. I strongly believe that Mullen, unlike our last captian, will play the best palyers at the position they are best at. Not try to force an offense on palyer that just cant do it.

  24. maroon1white Says:

My only question is do we know how many we’re going to “sign & place”?

    Hopefully few.

  25. bleedmaroon Says:

Scouts is reporting Patterson to ole miss

  26. maroonseedymon Says:

  41. nova3930 Says:

Can we sign Shumpert? Are we limited to 26 this year or am I mistaken?

  42. bleedmaroon Says:

In regards to patterson, its best that we dont have him anyway. If I were coach, I would want 6 or 7 good palyers that I could get the ball to at any time where one just as good as the other. Then you have less double teams and more rest so you can go deep in the 4th qtr with fresh legs. Just wait and see how good patterson will be when he is om only wr and these sec corners double on him and shut him down.

  43. jbuzz74 Says:

    Shumpert as signed

  44. jbuzz74 Says:

    Shumpert has signed

  45. goldendawg Says:

Nova, from my understanding, we sign as many top athletes as we can then we funnel a couple through junior colleges and officially take them on in a year or two.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

  46. imabulldog Says:

    SWEET! IT IS DONE

  47. nova3930 Says:

OK I wasn’t aware of that process.

  48. imabulldog Says:

It’d be funny to me if Patterson turns out to be a bust…you know, one of those you just shake your head at…hope so 😉

  49. maroon1white Says:

    Anybody heard about Thigpen?

  51. thespear Says:

ima, I talked to a guy who had worked with Nox Co. and he said patterson has a long way to go in perfecting his route running, so who knows?

  52. maroon1white Says:

    Thigpen is a bruin 😦

  53. imabulldog Says:

we’ll see, I mean he may be great, I hope he’s not great vs State ya know

  54. RoastBeef1 Says:

I saw Patterson play one game his junior year and he was a stud. I can see the issue with his route running though. I think he runs solid routes, but a lot of Noxubee’s game plan was to run Pat on a fly then throw it up and let him go get it. His hands are amazing though, thus the reason I think he’ll be great.
