Les Koenning Says …

by

Les Koenning is Mississippi State’s new offensive coordinator, but the Bulldogs also have a passing game coordinator, Mark Hudspeth, and a running game coordinator, John Hevesy. Then there’s head coach Dan Mullen, who will focus on special teams but of course will have input on the spread offense he’s bringing to Starkville.

So how’re all those roles going to mesh? Quite well, Koenning thinks.

“You’ve got guys that are responsible for each area, then I’ll sit down with them, and we’ll go over with them the plan we have for the team coming up,” he said. “It assigns different responsibilities to different people, it comes to me, and I go through it, and we see what we want to run.”

Koenning likes the mix of coaches on offense, which also includes Greg Knox (running backs) and Scott Sallach (tight ends). He praised the group’s collective experience, but he also knows that the offense’s success begins with Mullen.

“We will use all his expertise and knowledge,” Koenning said. “We’ll work together as a staff and get it all done. It’ll be pretty simple after you get down to it.”

More from Koenning in tomorrow’s Journal.

Febuary stinks in sports! I can’t stand the NBA, and football is officially over after yesterday. Just Bulldog basketball to follow. Guess I’ll be more productive for a few weeks. Or maybe just start prepping for fantasy baseball……

    Go Dawgs!
