Miss. State Athletic Media Relations
There’s no name more synonymous with Mississippi State basketball than the legendary Bailey Howell. At halftime Saturday his No. 52 jersey was retired. Howell, who resides in Starkville, was a two-time All-American and three-time, first-team All-SEC selection from 1957-59. He is second in the MSU record books with 2,030 points, while his 1,277 rebounds are tops. A first-round draft choice of the Detroit Pistons in 1959, he spent 12 years in the NBA and won two world titles with the Boston Celtics.
