LSU Week=Big Week?

Could this be a good omen for the MSU men’s basketball team? As John L. Pitts reports, Alexis Rack scored 22 points as the Lady Bulldogs took down LSU on Sunday, 65-55, in Starkville. That completes a first-ever season sweep of the Lady Tigers and moves the women to 18-6 overall, 5-4 in SEC play. I believe it’s definitely time to start the NCAA talk for Sharon Fanning‘s club.

Can the men keep themselves in that same talk? The Bulldogs (16-7, 6-2) are currently second in the Western Division and will host first-place LSU (19-4, 7-1) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. In case you need reminding, Marcus Thornton and LSU wore out the Bulldogs, 81-57, on Jan. 21 in Baton Rouge. State has won three of four since then, including two straight. We’ll hear from coach Rick Stansbury and some of the players later today.

A quick football link for you. The always provocative Gregg Doyel of columnizes about Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin, saying, “Kiffin’s a dope.” Kiffin, Doyel believes, is doomed to fail.

Guys I tell you what. Kiffin is an idiot. If I was Florida, LSU and ALabama I would hang 50 to 100 points on them if at all possible. You dont walk into the SEC and think just because you are now a head coach in a premier league, everyone is going to lay down and let you roll over them. I dont have aproblem with confidence in your team, but his mouth is by all means, “writing checks his body can not cover!” I think if we play “D” like we are capable. Would be nice if we had one of our big men start banging inside liek Russell Walters used to.

    First off, the LSU game=HUGE

I kinda got a little grief about this earlier this yr when i forecasted a MSU/LSU battle for the West. And this week I see just as important. More importantly, after we beat them on Wed. night, yes I’m pickin us to get some payback, but in a CLOSE one, maybe a last possession thriller, we REALLY need one or two other teams to step up and knock LSU down a bit. We’ll see…

And as for Kiffin, he is a dope, he is a arrogant young punk-who does not deserve a job of that magnitude, and he is living off his daddy’s name. UT is idiotic for making that hire which is =to an Orgeron hire. Gets the talent in, but this kid does not have the keys to the kingdom. After they get ‘raped’, excuse the wording, by Bama, UF, and UGA-cries for Fulmer will echo in the night.

    Dumb, dumb, hire

I think we match up very poorly against LSU. They will smother our outside game and unless we can do something on the inside to open things up it could get ugly.

Way toooooo early to pass judgement on the Kiffin hire. What he did by calling out Urban was dumb and they will get crushed by Fla next year because of it, but I am not ready to write this guy off because of the Raiders experiment. He has been running his mouth, I especially didn’t like the talk about stealing the other schools best recruiters and what not, so I hope he falls flat on his face. Nothing like the SEC to prove you are not head coaching material, ask you former co-worker.

thats right, and he isn’t either

Yeah, this is definitely a huge game. Winning this one puts us even for the West. Because the head-to-head would be 1-1 and division records would then be even at 4-2, the tie-breaker would be performance against division foes. Since our only other division loss was to Ole Miss and they’re ranked higher than Alabama, we’d win the tie-breaker.

Assuming we then win out the season, we’d also be the regular season champions by at least one game over Florida and by tie-breaker rules over LSU.

I’m getting a little ahead of myself, but the fact that the Dawgs are even in the hunt this late in the game is a great accomplishment for a team that was picked to finish 4th in the West. What’s even better is that this is not a far-fetched scenario.

    Go Dawgs!

Kiffin has already succeeded at Tn….. in putting a bullseye on his forehead and making a horse’s butt out of himself. I think he is destined to fail at Tn not because he won’t win at all…. c’mon he’ll have talent, and daddy to lean on. He’ll fail because the fans in K’ville have expectations that can’t be met! New systems and all, let’s just say he wins 4 his first year and 6 his second, that might be curtains! Even following that with 7 or #8 in a weak bowl, vol fans think that is beneath them. I can’t imagine being a coach and taking a job there or Auburnt…. unless I was just looking to cash in.
