MSU at Auburn: Official Game Thread

We are live at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum on the Auburn campus. Lovely little town, what I’ve seen of it. Anyway, a big game for Mississippi State, which is trying to bounce back from Wednesday’s double-overtime loss to LSU. “For the most part, this team has bounced back pretty good. This is a little different bounce back than we’ve had because of the way we lost that game,” MSU coach Rick Stansbury said Thursday. Here are the basics:

When: 4 p.m. today, Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum, Auburn, Ala.
TV: Fox Sports South (where available).
XM: Channel 199.
Series: Auburn leads 67-62.

We need to start fast, keep our feet on their throats, and not let up till it’s over. Wed. night is over.

    Go Dawgs!

  2. thespear Says:

    Lets go DAWGS

bama jus lost to USC on a USC tip in when the ball was sittin on the rim. shoulda been offensive goal tending. I realize they were reviewing whether the tip was in time and not if it was on the rim, but come on they jus ripped off bama when it was cleary offensive goal tending. Sometimes rules can work for you and against you

  3. imabulldog Says:

Might want to go ZONE rick, we are getting torched

  4. Brad Locke Says:

Auburn’s Tay Waller is on fire. He hit his first five 3-point attempts, and Auburn leads 18-10 at 14:53/1st half. Ravern Johnson seems to be making a concerted effort to drive into the lane for MSU. Jarvis Varnado has seven points and two dunks.

  5. midnightdawg Says:

hmmm, not the start I envisioned…

  6. imabulldog Says:

yeah, what did I say? ZONE PLEASE…I swear rick is hard headed

  7. imabulldog Says:

and we are getting whipped like little GIRLS down low

  8. darkcooger Says:

Georgia just beat Florida. That might be the biggest surprise of the weekend. State losing to Auburn would be second…

    C’mon, Dawgs!

  9. thespear Says:

what do you know Augustus shot the ball, and again, and again

  10. imabulldog Says:

See what the Zone can do, bout time-dang…

And Kodi needs more playing time, so that when he actually gets in he doesn’t try to do too much. He wasted 2 possessions back to back with bad shot choices

  11. thespear Says:

barry and bost!!! Dont sleep on our boys

  12. ericintupelo Says:

Hard to believe he’s a freshman. Like him lot more than Jamont

  13. Brad Locke Says:

State’s made 4 of its last 6 from 3-point range, has cut it to 40-38 at 1:19/1st half. Dee Bost has three of those.

  14. ericintupelo Says:

Hate to say it but gotta pull for the Rebs tonight so we can get back in the Western Divison race

  15. imabulldog Says:

you are right eric- Go Rebs!

Let’s go Boys! Once we get the lead back, I say we don’t lose it. Time to snap Auby back to reality

  16. Brad Locke Says:

Halftime, and while Auburn leads 42-40, I’d say MSU owns the momentum for outscoring the Tigers 25-10 to close the half. Varnado has 11 points, Bost and Stewart have 9, and Ravern Johnson has 7. Waller kind of disappeared, leads Auburn with 15.

  17. thespear Says:

great job gettin the game back under control….. I wouldnt mind seeing Stans attack the lane with 2 or 3 bigs in for a short span against this very small Auby line up

Bost and Barry look good. Look for Phil to have a big second half, he hit a few shots that were waved off bc of travels, fouls, etc.

  18. farley662 Says:

The hell with that. Go to Hell Ole Miss!

  19. darkcooger Says:

Nice to see Stewball knocking down some 3s. He’s such a streaky shooter.

  20. maxdawg Says:

    O. K. we got the cobwebs out. Now lets playball like we know we can in the second half. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!

  21. ukrainedog Says:

Looks like it’s all blog tonight (this morning)…I can’t get the State/livestat page to load.

  22. darkcooger Says:

ukrainedog: Have you tried the ESPN GameCast?

That’s what I was watching during the LSU game. It lagged the MSU live stats by a little bit, but at least it works.

  23. ericintupelo Says:

I don’t like the Rebs either Farley but gotta think what works better for us in the long run. We’re two games back with time running out on the regular season and a Western Division title would look good on our resume. Odds are not in our favor but we can always hope

  24. Brad Locke Says:

State takes first lead since 3-2, now up 48-45.

  25. imabulldog Says:

BL, if you could…could you please tell FSS to cut down there crowd microphone? All I hear is some redneck yellin

  26. Brad Locke Says:

    Only one redneck?

  27. imabulldog Says:

BTW SWAT has been robbed on 2 foul calls, both clear blocks

  28. imabulldog Says:

    multiple, sorry

  29. ripleyreb Says:

Thanks ericintupelo, I’m pulling hard for the Bulldogs. Win by State keeps us ahead of Auburn in the West. Maybe the Rebs can pull miracle to help you guys. You know how Farley is.

  30. darkcooger Says:

Yeah, I’m pulling for the Rebels tonight too, IF the Dawgs beat Auburn. Otherwise, I don’t care. 😛

  31. imabulldog Says:

officials are killin us this half

  32. imabulldog Says:

We need a 5 point lead BAD

  33. JB Says:

    GO REBELS!!!!

  34. imabulldog Says:

yeah the zone was working, let’s not do it anymore. Rick is a stubborn as CC not running a QB sneak on 4 &1

  35. imabulldog Says:

    sorry meant as stubborn as

  36. thespear Says:

ima a zone will only work against the three for so long bc they are having to take spot up shots instead of shots off of motion( against a man)
Its a difficult art to keep an offense off balance with changing defenses, as well as a mental challenge for the defenders.

  37. thespear Says:

crap i didnt finish, what im saying is you cant let an offense settle in and find the same shots consistently or they will knock em down

  38. imabulldog Says:

Just so Rick knows, it doesn’t take a genius, to stay in the ZONE, he’s blowing the game as a coach, we can still win and probably will if he actually coaches. And I hate to say it. but SWAT is struggling against Barber, not the other guy.

  39. imabulldog Says:

well the only other way is man-to-man, and we know we can’t run with their guys, we can’t keep up or get around their screens.

I’m just saying it minimizes, not completely stops

  40. ukrainedog Says:

Gametracker is working for me now. Kind of wish it wasn’t! Doesn’t seem to be too pretty of a game for the Dogs.

  41. ericintupelo Says:

Perimeter D isn’t as strong as it used to be. That and rebounding used to be our staples

  42. ericintupelo Says:

Anytime Bailey or Johnson catch the ball they shoot

  43. imabulldog Says:

Have to make a run here, if not…

  44. ericintupelo Says:

Stewart is playing with passion tonight. Put Jarvis back in

  45. imabulldog Says:

Auby is making it hard for us to shoot 3’s now

  46. ericintupelo Says:

    Here we go

  47. thespear Says:

    these fss announcers are dopes!

  48. imabulldog Says:

we are as sloppy as ever

  49. imabulldog Says:

yeah, calling for a flagrant foul, when the one on Barry shoulda been earlier

  50. imabulldog Says:

Twanee sucks, don’t care what anyone says, tryin to get pretty with his lay up

  51. ericintupelo Says:

Not as bad as Elgin and Johnson tho….weak

  52. thespear Says:

well twany missed a wide open romero there

  53. ericintupelo Says:

Benock has a sweet stroke but no handles whatsoever and plays scared it seems

  54. imabulldog Says:

Riley wets himself with a game on the line

  55. Brad Locke Says:

State getting sloppy, gone cold from 3. It’s 83-75 Auburn, with the ball, 2:24 to go.

  56. ericintupelo Says:

I can’t help but think back to the Tennessee game

  57. imabulldog Says:

I might cry if we lose to Auby in bball

  58. thespear Says:

well we cant do this against florida, usc, tenn or it will look a whole lot worse than this

  59. ericintupelo Says:

  60. imabulldog Says:

How many freakin airballs have we shot!?!?!

This is terrible, we just need to put em on the line

  61. thespear Says:

why has barry put up 3 airballs, kinda like the ole miss game? Cpme on I mean i can hit the rim consitently

  62. imabulldog Says:

Stanz has been OUT-COACHED by LEBO…LEBO

    this is freakin embarrassing

  63. ukrainedog Says:

    Gonna be an ugly loss.

  64. imabulldog Says:

I am a major advocate for Stanz, but he has absolutely SUCKED today. Went away from the best adjustment he made all day.

Yall can argue with me all you want, but when we were on that stretch of a 3 point lead or so and he abandoned the zone, it costed us (period)

  65. Brad Locke Says:

    Final: Auburn 91, MSU 76.

  66. imabulldog Says:

  67. ericintupelo Says:

Well NIT here we come unless we run the SEC Tournament. Didn’t defend our home floor this year….LSU, Ole Miss, SAN DIEGO for crying out loud and we still have to go to Tennessee, play South Carolina, Florida, etc

  68. imabulldog Says:

We can forget any type of invites for the dance, because our easiest game left on our schedule was just played

  69. farley662 Says:

I don’t care if OM winning means we win a national championship, I want them to lose at everything including ping pong. Live in Oxford like I do and you’ll understand.

  70. ericintupelo Says:

Well if we do get in the NIT I hope we get to host. I had a blast the last time and went to every game we hosted. Still can’t believe we lost on a pretty much uncontested 3

  71. darkcooger Says:

eric: We’ve always been a stronger road team than home team. I’ve never understood how that could be true, but we have *always* been better on the road.

  72. ericintupelo Says:

San Diego…that’s all I’m saying. Who knows the Dogs might run the table the rest of the way? Either way I’ll be watchin or listenin.

  73. imabulldog Says:

    hopefully we can rebound.

    Tomorrows another day 🙂

  74. s084swd Says:

It’s looking like unless things change pretty dramatically soon, the best we can hope for is the NIT. Seems like when Stans put the subs in, they did better than the starters. I guess the starters were pretty much worn out after LSU. I kind of wish Stans would play his subs a little more though. It’s been a tough and disappointing week losing to LSU in double overtime and then @Auburn. Waller had a monster game. Didn’t see that one coming. Maybe we’ll do better when Auburn visits @State.

  75. imabulldog Says:

I think his timing the past few weeks on bringing in the 2nd string, and not even that, but the combination he puts on the court as well…is pretty poor in both concerns

  76. s084swd Says:

I guess our youth is starting to show. Both Auburn and LSU are more experienced.

  77. s084swd Says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Stans go with two bigs instead of just one. I could see Varnado and Brian Johnson starting out there.

  78. maxdawg Says:

That Wed. night game was not good for State or LSU. Ole Miss is up at the half. I wanted Ole Miss to win but we were suppose to win to.

  79. maxdawg Says:

Now I see what Senior leadership does for you, Dang you Jamont!!!!

  80. rwriffe Says:

I liked Jamont. However, if he were back this year our record would not be as good as it is and I don’t think Jarvis would have matured like he as on offense. The fact that we have had to rely on Jarvis and how he has responded will pay huge dividends next year.

  81. midnightdawg Says:

agreed rwiffe. it goes back to ima’s point that these guys are learning on the job, and developing much faster in one season than they would have. it’ll pay off next year and beyond.

anyone know how Jamont’s career is going? Hope it’s going well
