Langston, Friend Had ‘About a Pound of Marijuana’

UPDATE: See the last paragraph of the press release for a correction. They were charged with possession of over an ounce, not over a kilogram, which is equal to about 2.2 pounds. I can’t believe I caught that, because math is not my strong suit. Thanks to the HPD for fixing it.

CORRECTION: If convicted, Langston actually faces up to 20 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine.

Synarus Green of the Hattiesburg Police Department sent out a press release detailing the account of Maurice Langston‘s arrest on Saturday, so I’ll let it speak for itself, in full. By the way, Langston and friend should have had their initial court appearance on Monday.

“Hattiesburg police arrested James Jenkins, 21, of Columbus, MS and Maurice Langston, 20, of Meridian, MS for the possession of about a pound of marijuana in Hattiesburg on Interstate-59.

“On Saturday, February 28, 2009 around 6:00 p.m., officers with the Hattiesburg Police Department’s Highway Interdiction Team were monitoring traffic on the northbound side of I-59 near the 60-mile marker when they stopped a black Jeep Liberty for a traffic violation.

“The driver of that vehicle was identified as Maurice Langston along with another occupant (identified as James Jenkins). Langston’s nervous behavior, along with the odor of marijuana noticed during the initial contact, prompted the officers to conduct the traffic stop more thoroughly. This deeper look in the investigation lead officers to the discovery of about a pound of alleged marijuana (*street valued at approximately $1000.00). The narcotics as well as about $500.00 in U.S. currency were seized by police.

“Both Jenkins and Langston were taken into custody, arrested and transported to the Forrest County Regional Jail where they were both charged with (1) count of possession of marijuana over an ounce with the intent to distribute.”

was this one of croom’s recruits?

Was recruited by both staffs. Committed after meeting with Mullen in Meridian the day he was introduced as coach.

A pound?! Holy crap. That’s serious business.

Also, I’m going to be mathematically pedantic today. A kilogram is about 2.2 pounds. The Hattiesburg PD needs to learn math, because if it was about a pound, then it was significantly less than a kilogram. Their first and last sentences contradict.

Oh well, I guess thats that. I guess thats what he learned at ECCC. Now a young kid who had a lot going for him, now can look forward to a new career of long row farming, and pressing license plates. What a shame. Shows that even a best of family and/or coaches can’t be with them all the time, and they will mess up.

Don’t believe I every heard of anyone ever dying of lung cancer from smoking “da weed”.

LOL JB – unfortunately ‘da weed’ is cancerous to your football career when/if busted…new coach, new year and some of the same ol’ $—.
