SEC Honors Varnado, Bost

by

For the second straight year, Mississippi State junior center Jarvis Varnado was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year this morning. He was also first-team All-SEC and made the all-defensive squad. Varnado is averaging 13.9 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.6 blocks per game, all team highs.

Point guard Dee Bost lost out on Freshman of the Year honors to Ole Miss’ Terrico White, but he made the all-freshman team. Bost is averaging 11.5 points and 4.4 assists per game.

As for other honorees, LSU’s Marcus Thornton was named Player of the Year, and his coach, Trent Johnson, is Coach of the Year.

hard to argue with white getting freshman of the year…it was a toss up between he and bost. it is great for bost to be in the running & he’ll be even better next year.

I think Barry gets overlooked as well. His plays his butt off on D. Never seen the guy not hustle

I’ll tell u who hustles is Phil Turner. He routinely goes after balls and up and over taller players to grab the boards. He had a string of dbl-dbls earlier in the season. If there were such a thing as most improved he would have to be considered
