Bulldog Basketball: Scrimmage

by

We’re still in the second 20-minute session as I write this. I’m about to head over to Davis Wade.

Sophomore Ravern Johnson has looked quite impressive, scoring 20 points in the first session. He made some good baseline drives and flashed his outside game. During one sequence, he scored seven straight points on a baseline layup, a 3-pointer off the dribble, and a long jumper.

I was also impressed with Elgin Bailey, the beefy sophomore (6-8, 265). He matched up against junior Jarvis Varnado a lot and held his own. Bailey had 10 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Varnado had 11 points, 10 boards and two blocks. Bailey swatted a Varnado shot near the end of the period.

Freshman point guard Dee Bost is definitely a top-notch passer. And he’s not afraid to shoot the 3 or drive the lane.

Freshman Romero Osby also stood out. Very aggressive but under control. He had eight points and five rebounds.

In fact, most of the big guys showed some versatility; e.g., an outside touch and an ability to work their way to the rim. As long as they’re willing to mix it up against SEC teams, that frontcourt will be fine.

Off to the gridiron.
